Luxury Stay Hotel Santa Maria Briones
Michelin Guide Property
My husband and I found the medieval village of Briones charming and picturesque. It is located 100 metres above sea level, set among the acclaimed vineyards in La Rioja. Located near the Ebro River and just 30 minutes from Logroño, it's a must-visit in northern Spain.
We sought a hotel in the La Rioja region that would offer easy access to several major wineries. We stayed at Hotel Santa Maria, a Michelin-Guide property featuring the excellent Restaurant Allegar, which served breakfast and dinner. We traveled in early September, and unbeknownst to us, this region is a cycling mecca. Fellow travelers fell into two categories: cyclists or wine enthusiasts. We felt right at home.

Hotel Santa Maria Briones is a family-owned 16-room boutique hotel providing luxury accommodations. We stayed in a standard room with breakfast and found the room to be beautifully decorated with two sitting chairs, a desk, a comfortable bed, and views of the courtyard. The hotel staff were exceptionally welcoming and warm during our two-night stay.
After check-in, we headed to the local pub to grab a pint and some appetizers. Our quaint restaurant provided outdoor seating in the historic town square with tables facing the Elizabeth Gothic style Church of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción which dates back to the 16th century. Walking around this church and taking a moment to sit in the pews is truly a memorable and spiritual event.
