Who doesn't love a classic girls' trip? Great drinks, delicious food, pool time, and plenty of laughter—anyone who has been on a trip with their best friends since middle school knows exactly what I mean. Life is short; cherish your friendships, hold them close, and make time to spend together.

For my most recent girls' trip, Riviera Maya Adults-Only All-Inclusive Resort | Margaritaville was the perfect getaway. I booked a nonstop flight from San Francisco (SFO) directly to Cancun, which took about 5 hours and 47 minutes on United Airlines. Customs and immigration were easy to navigate, and we arranged for a private shuttle that delivered our group of four to the hotel in under 20 minutes.

We reserved two double-queen paradise rooms that featured balconies with views of the pools and the ocean in the distance. The rooms were clean, spacious, and decorated in a cheerful island style.

The resort offered three pools, including a large main pool where most of the day's activities took place. We enjoyed water zumba, participated in music trivia, and had a fantastic time at the foam party. The crowd was diverse, with people of all ages, backgrounds, and nationalities. Throughout our stay, we always felt comfortable and safe at the resort. The staff was fantastic, offering excellent service and genuine warmth. One thing to note: This resort does not have a beach or access to the ocean. The last hurricane wrecked havoc on the beach. We got over the disappointment pretty fast with the lovely pools, drinks, and fun atmosphere.

Margaritaville Riveria Maya Adults Only Resort has four restaurants, four bars, and a coffee shop, which includes two fine dining restaurants, JWB Steakhouse and Italia at Frank & Lola's Italian Trattoria. Both of these restaurants require reservations (though we walked into JWB Steakhouse one of the nights without a reservation). I recommend you make dinner reservations during check-in as space can be limited.

The other two restaurants do not require advanced reservations. The LandShark Brewery & Grill and The Boat House (which is a buffet-style dining experience). Our favorite restaurant by far was LandShark Brewery & Grill. They had excellent food, a great outdoor patio overlooking the ocean, and fantastic live music and a DJ every evening. We thoroughly enjoyed the live music and the DJ; both were incredibly fun, and we burned calories dancing every night. Do not miss the Salted Rim Bar; the atmosphere and drinks are inspired. We loved sampling the cocktail list and trying fancy new drinks.

What We Loved
  • The vibrant and colorful decor throughout the resort

  • Extremely clean accommodations and property

  • Friendly people and excellent staff

  • Restaurants were wonderful with lots of options for cuisine

  • The LandShark Brewery & Grill, nachos, live music, great margaritas, and dancing

  • Fun activities throughout the day

  • The pools were refreshing

  • Pool lounge chairs and umbrellas were ample

  • Coffee shop was a hub for great coffee and sweets throughout the day
