History & Details

The Chedi Hotel Andermatt opened in 2013 and is a spectacular hotel with a true WOW factor. From the moment you pull up to the hotel you are greeted by elegance and warmth.

The origin story of Andermatt Swiss Alps is reminiscent of a fairytale. The journey commenced with a single visit: In February 2005, Egyptian investor Samih Sawiris arrived in Andermatt and instantly recognized the town's potential. It quickly became evident that Andermatt was destined to become a premier Swiss vacation destination.

The hotel’s Egyptian owner, Samih Sawiris, invested over $2 billion in the development of Andermatt, quickly transforming a quaint village into a world-class ski destination. The result is the sophisticated and ecologically friendly Chedi Andermatt resort, the first European hotel from the Chedi group, a luxury brand that’s well-established in Asia.

The jaw-dropping luxury hotel was designed by Kuala Lumpur’s Jean-Michel Gathy, with an inspired Alpine chic aesthetic with Asian influences. The inspiration for the architecture is the Swiss chalets and grand hotels of the past, offering a modern take.

The Chedi Hotel has 123 rooms and suites all furnished with a sleek Asian-inspired decor, rich textures, smart technology, dark Alpine wood, soft leather chairs, panoramic windows, and open fireplaces. The rooms have excellent amenities with a fully stocked bar, large shower, soaking tub, and gorgeous outdoor balconies with views of the pool and mountains. We booked a Deluxe room with a balcony that boasted stunning views of the pool and mountains.

THE SPA is an expansive hydrotherapy area, featuring saunas, steam baths, and a cold plunge pool coupled with the relaxation lounge, providing a haven of tranquility. Soak in the serenity of the remarkable indoor pool or the warmth of the heated outdoor pool, which affords stunning views of the mountainous landscape. The facility is rounded off with a superbly outfitted fitness studio and a full menu of individual spa services. We had never experienced anything quite like this facility. It was beautiful, and tranquil, and had every amenity you could desire in a spa facility. Steam baths, a dry sauna, three jacuzzi pools, and a full menu of spa services, massages, facials, etc. FANTASTIC.

Final Thoughts

We loved this hotel, it surpassed all of our expectations. The hotel and the surrounding town of Andermatt provided us with a perfect two-day stay. The hydrotherapy spa and amenities were FANTASTIC.
