Trip Details
Travel Dates
Mid-August for a three-night stay. We experienced fewer crowds and moderate temperatures.
Property Type
A 5-star boutique hotel on the shores of Lake Annecy. For well over a century, L’Auberge du Père Bise has welcomed guests to the shores of Lake Annecy. In 2017, the Bise family sold the inn, and the new owners oversaw a modern renovation. The new owner is none other than Jean Sulpice, who was the youngest French chef ever to receive a MICHELIN Star.
Relais & Châteaux Spa. The Restaurant of Jean Sulpice**2-star gourmet restaurant & The 1903 Restaurant in Talloires of Chef Jean Sulpice.
Type of Trip
My husband and I were on an extended Road trip, and Lake Annecy was one of five stops.
Room Type
Superior Room with Lake Views.
Hotel Impressions
Room
The Superior Room was the smallest square footage room of our entire trip. I struggled to find a spot to store our luggage in the room and unpack my clothes.
That said, it was beautifully decorated, with some nice high-end finishes. I loved the color palette of greens and blues and rich fabrics. Black-out curtains were provided, which was nice. The balcony had lovely water views and was equipped with a small bistro table with two chairs. Our neighbors unfortunately smoked (it was allowed on the balconies), so I ended up not spending much time enjoying the space outside. Our room had a Nespresso machine with pods provided, which was nice.
Hotel Grounds
The hotel grounds sit directly on Lake Annecy with a large green space opening up to the water. The grounds were stunning and provided several docks and stairs that led down to the water for full access. The beach area had comfortable chaise lounges with cocktail and food service available. We loved hanging out on the waterfront. The water was clear and refreshing, and everyone was in the water. The hotel guests had access to rental watersports directly next door, including ski boats, paddleboards, kayaks, and tubes. The hotel also had a fantastic indoor pool in the spa that was available for guests to enjoy. In addition, we could walk around the small town of Annecy, where we found some shopping and restaurants. We loved our stay at this unique lakefront boutique hotel.
Restaurant Impressions
The breakfast buffet had limited options, and the à la carte items were an additional charge, which was disappointing.
The 1903 Restaurant had fantastic views of the water with both indoor and outdoor dining. The service was excellent. I enjoyed the Rack of Lamb and the Fresh Fish during our visit. The selection of cheeses was also a standout. I would recommend you make a reservation at the restaurants before you travel to ensure availability.
